‘The Master’s Freshwater & Marine Biology (formerly Limnology & Oceanography)​ suits me for it's academical content as well as the programme outline. It covers a broad range of aquatic ecosystems, both fresh and salt water. And it appeals to me that you spend a large part of the two-year programme on research practice, which can be done all over the world.

My research projects made up the ideal combination of travelling to interesting places and doing fieldwork in amazing places. During my first research project I looked at the genetic composition of insect communities in high altitude rivers in the Peruvian Andes. My second internship was about  the threat cyanobacteria pose to coral reefs in the Caribbean, using genetics as an important research technique. Both my research projects have been great experiences. I learned so much about conducting research, and how to improvise when things don't go according to plan.

When I finish my Master’s, I see several options. I would love to work as a scientific journalist. There are so many beautiful things to be seen in Biology, worth it to be shared in a readable and interesting way. On the other hand, I really enjoy working as a scientist. Doing a PhD would also be a great opportunity, so I might end up doing that first.’
