If you have obtained or will obtain a diploma or degree certificate from a Dutch educational institution, please follow the steps below to apply for this programme.

How to apply

  • 1. Check the deadlines

    The application deadline for this Bachelor’s programme is 1 May. 

    For students with an international prior education, please see the application procedure on our website.

  • 2. Check the entry requirements

    Vwo-diploma

    If you have obtained a vwo-diploma from a Dutch secondary educational institution you are eligible for the Bachelor's in Communication Science.

    Hbo first-year degree

    If you have completed the first year or first phase of a degree programme at an hbo-institution you are eligible for the Bachelor's in Communication Science.

    Colloquium doctum

    A colloquium doctum is a special admission procedure for people who are not eligible for the Bachelor's in European Studies on the basis of their obtained diplomas, and who are aged 21 or older.

  • 3. Submit enrolment application in Studielink
  • 4. Activate your UvanetID

    After submitting your enrolment application in Studielink, you will receive an email with your UvAnetID. Follow the instructions in the email to activate your ID as you will need it to complete your UvA application.

    Please note that, after submitting your enrolment application in Studielink, it will take approximately 48 hours before you receive your UvAnetID. So make sure you register in Studielink well in advance so you do not miss the application deadline (see step 1).

  • 5. UvA Matching: register and participate

    UvA Matching is a mandatory introduction to the Bachelor’s programme you are applying for. It is designed to help you assess whether you have chosen the right programme. You will receive an email with information on how to register for UvA Matching.

After (conditional) acceptance

  • 6. Fill out intake form

    The intake form is mandatory for all students enrolling in a Bachelor's programme and will ask you to reflect on your academic background and motivations for enrolling in the programme. The link to the intake form as well as additional information about the intake process will be sent to you by email.

  • 7. Attend introduction day

    In the week before the start of the programme, you will need to attend the compulsory introduction day. If you start your Bachelor's in September 2025, the introduction day will be on Tuesday 26 August 2025.

    On this day you will receive all relevant programme information to make a good start and you will be registered for the courses of the first semester of the Bachelor’s programme in Communication Science. We will send you detailed information about the Introduction Day in July or early August.

  • 8. Request student ID card

    A student ID card is a personal card which serves as proof of identity for examinations or borrowing library books. You will receive instructions on how to request your student ID card. 

  • 9. Pay the tuition fee

    You will need to pay the tuition fee in order to complete your enrolment for a degree programme at the UvA. Find out more about how to pay the tuition fees.
