Thinking of a career in academia? The best way to prepare yourself is to follow a Research Master's programme before you commence with your PhD. The Research Master's programme in Economics, Finance and Econometrics is offered by the Tinbergen Institute. It offers you access to a doctoral programme at the UvA or another university.

Professional development and career preparation during your Master’s
The Economics and Business Career Centre (EBCC) offers advice and support for your professional development and preparation for your career. During your Master’s you can reach out to the EBCC for:
- information about internships;
- personal advice on your career path;
- preparing for job applications and the Dutch labour market.
During your studies, you will develop professional skills and gain practical experience by solving business-oriented cases and connecting theory to practice. These skills and experiences are your currency in a rapidly evolving labour market. After completing your Master’s, you will start your career with confidence.
The EBCC and the study associations often organise career events. Here you meet employers, expand your network with professional contacts and learn about the latest developments in the field.
Internship and exchange
If you have completed your curriculum, you can do an internship or go on an exchange abroad. For international students, an internship is an excellent opportunity to experience the Dutch labour market.
Alumnus Mark Walschot: 'Academic schooling of any sort makes you think about problems in a pretty structured, analytical way. This can be tremendously useful when running a company. As for my studies specifically, I guess I apply courses on strategy, mathematics and maybe marketing most frequently, but I mostly do this subconsciously.'
