Would you like to learn more about national and international economics and be able to analyse current global economic developments? In this minor, you will explore the underlying economic framework of individual and societal functioning.
After successfully finishing the minor Economics: Transition Minor (60 EC) you have acquired a thorough knowledge on the main theories and applications in the field of Economics. This knowledge allows you to understand and evaluate current developments in the (world) economy. You can use this knowledge to participate in and contribute to policy discussions.
You need at least one academic year to complete this minor and the programme consists of 60 EC. To finish this minor, you have to follow 8 compulsory courses and supplement these with 12 EC in restricted-choice electives.
This minor gives you direct access to the Master’s programme in Economics or Business Economics.

You are expected to possess sufficient quantitative knowledge. The minor Economics: Transition Minor (60 EC) is a difficult programme.
This means that students are assumed to have previously studied mathematics at the vwo level A or B. Students are strongly advised to take a Summer School in Mathematics if the aforementioned knowledge is not present or if they would feel more secure after brushing up their knowledge in this field. The course Statistics 1 for Economics provides an excellent basis for self-study should deficiencies exist with respect to the knowledge of statistics.
For the academic year 2025–2026, you can apply from 1 April to 13 May. You are guaranteed placement if you apply and meet the entry requirements. There is no limit on the number of places.
