The interdisciplinary minor Arts and Cultural Management is particularly suitable for students who want to examine the organisational and legal context within which arts are created, presented and experienced.
Sound knowledge of the business, organisational and legal side of the cultural sector is of great importance in order to manage cultural organisations properly. The minor Arts and Cultural Management is therefore especially suitable for students who want to combine their field of study with a (managerial) role in the cultural sector. This minor is also suitable for students from the Bachelor’s in Business Administration; instead of the course ‘Financial Accounting 1 for Business’, they will do the course ‘Cultural Data Analysis’ (also 6 ECTS).
This minor is offered by the Faculty of Humanities,in cooperation with the Faculty of Economics and Business.
The Faculty of Humanities’ minors consist of 30 ECTS credits and earn you a second qualification that will be listed on the transcript accompanying your degree certificate.
Dutch speaking students can replace this course with the course 'Recht in de culturele organisatie'. Please note: this course is scheduled at a different moment, block 2 of the first semester (1.2)
This minor may serve as a good preparation for academic Bachelor’s students who want to apply for admission to a Master's programme in Arts and Culture, for example Kunst, cultuur en politiek, or Kunstgeschiedenis (both Dutch taught), or the English taught Master's in International Dramaturgy, Music Studies, and Theatre Studies. You may also opt for the two-year Research Master's in Art and Performance Research Studies, or Cultural Analysis, or other Master’s programmes across the humanities.
Always check the entry requirements on the Application & admission page of the Master’s programme you are interested in.
This minor is open for application to students who have obtained an academic first-year diploma or a positive Binding Study Advice from an academic Bachelor's programme.
The minor is also open for application to students from a Dutch University of Applied Sciences (HBO) who have completed their propaedeutic year. If you are an HBO student and if you are looking to do a Master's programme at the UvA, please check out our pre-Master's programmes, as completing a minor is not enough to grant you access to Master’s programmes.
The registration period for a minor in the academic year 2025-2026 is 1 April - 13 May 2025.
This minor has a limited number of places available. If there are more applications than available places, a lottery will be held. The timing of your application within the specified period will not affect your chances of being placed.
