Why do people do what they do and think what they think? In the minor Anthropology you will address these questions and study the relationship between global developments and experiences on a local level.
This minor is for students who:
Explore the history and theoretical foundations of anthropology in a global context. Trace the evolution of dominant schools of thought from Eurocentric perspectives to more inclusive and diverse viewpoints. Study classical theories like evolutionism and structural-functionalism, as well as contemporary paradigms like postcolonialism, feminism, and Foucauldian approaches.
As a student enrolled in this minor, you decide whether to complete a regional course (block 1 or 5) or an exploration course (block 4).
We believe it is important to give our students the freedom to explore the topics that interest them most. For example, you could choose the Visual Anthropology module, where you combine the disciplines of research, art, and documentary filmmaking, or the Anthropology of Data and Technology module, in which you explore the impact of digitalisation on human relationships.
This minor may serve as a good preparation for academic Bachelor’s students who want to apply for admission to a Master's in Cultural and Social Anthropology, Cultural and Social Anthropology: Applied Anthropology, Cultural and Social Anthropology: Visual Anthropology and Medical Anthropology and Sociology. Always check the entry requirements of the Master’s programme you are interested in.
The registration period for a minor in the academic year 2025-2026 is 1 April - 13 May 2025.
