Specialise with a Master's degree
A Master’s programme enables you to gain advanced knowledge and engage in experience-based learning. The specialised knowledge and experience gained in your Master’s are assets in the job market that help you climb the career ladder. With your Bachelor’s degree in Economics and Business Economics you are guaranteed admission to one or more associated Economics and Business Master’s programmes. These follow-on Master’s programmes align seamlessly with your Bachelor’s programme.

Accountancy and Control
Choose the specialisation Accountancy and Control, and be eligible to the 1-year Master's in Accountancy and Control. In this Master's you will be prepared for a career in accountancy or financial management. The programme offers you a challenging combination of academic training and the application of international financial and reporting standards to complex real-life business cases. You will develop your intellectual skills, professional knowledge and gain the latest insights to take with you to your first employer.

Finance
In our Master's in Finance you will gain a deep understanding of financial decision-making and markets. We will train you in a broad range of skills to take with you to your first employer. You can choose one of our 6 tracks and focus on the field that interests you most. You are unconditionally eligible for this Master's after choosing the specialisation Finance.

Business Economics
In this 1-year academic Master’s programme you learn to conduct research in business economics subjects. Choose from 2 top-level tracks: Managerial Economics and Strategy or Neuroeconomics. Both major Economics and Business Economics, with specialisation Organisational Economics or Finance, will give you access to this Master's.

Economics
Have you taken a major in Economics, and are you interested in what makes the world tick? In the Master's in Economics, leading experts share their research and insights on how to make the economy future proof. You can choose one of our 6 tracks and focus on the field that interests you most.

Entrepreneurship (joint degree VU and UvA)
During this exciting Master’s programme you learn how to turn opportunities into action. Thinking and feeling like an entrepreneur benefits your career as employee or business owner. This is a joint degree of VU Amsterdam and UvA. Both majors of the BSc Economics and Business Economics will give direct access to this Master's.
Did you take a minor in a specific discipline during your Bachelor's programme? If so, you may be eligible for admission to the Master's programmes relating to that discipline. For some of these, certain admission requirements apply.
Where do our graduates work?
As an economist or business economist, you could take a position with employers such as:
- multinationals, banks, pension funds and insurers (as a financial analyst, stock trader, investment expert, controller or account manager, for example)
- large and small businesses in all manner of sectors (as a business analyst, strategic consultant, data analyst or portfolio manager, for example)
- government ministries (as an economic adviser or policy officer, for example)
- academic institutions (as a researcher or PhD candidate, for example)
- consultancy bureaus (as an accountant or management consultant, for example)

Professional development and career preparation during your Bachelor’s
The Economics and Business Career Centre (EBCC) offers advice and support for your professional development. From the first year of your Bachelor’s, you can reach out to the EBCC for:
- personal advice on your study and career choices (e.g. added value of a Master’s);
- developing professional skills and gaining practical experience (internship, study-related secondary job);
- preparing for the Dutch labour market.
Your skills and experiences are essential in today’s rapidly changing job market. With the EBCC's support, you will be ready to start your career with confidence after graduation.
The EBCC and the study associations often organise career events. Here you can expand your network with professional contacts and learn about the latest developments in the field.
Internship and exchange
During or after your studies you have the possibility to do an internship or go on an exchange abroad. For international students an internship is an excellent opportunity to experience the Dutch labour market.

What are the career prospects?
Our students have excellent career prospects. All companies need a good economist to resolve all sorts of economics issues. As an economist or business economist, potential future employers include multinationals, banks, ministries, major businesses and SMEs in various sectors. You could be employed as a financial analyst, stock trader, economics adviser or accountant. Many of our students continue their studies by taking a specialist Master’s programme.

Will there be regular networking events?
Sefa, the study association for all Faculty of Economics and Business students, organises a number of online and offline career events a year, where you can meet potential future employers. In addition, there are regular guest lectures for you to attend, hosted by businesses and government organisations.
