  • Profile

Before joining the Faculty of Social and Behavioral Sciences at the University of Amsterdam (UvA), Christa Boer was affiliated with Amsterdam UMC, where she conducted extensive research on the impact of surgical procedures and anesthesia on physiology.

In 2018, she started as Vice Dean of Education at the Faculty of Medicine at Amsterdam UMC and VU Amsterdam. In this role, she led the medical program and worked as a Professor of Medical Education on themes such as equal opportunities for students, addressing inappropriate behavior, and medical education in a healthcare landscape outside the boundaries of the hospital. In this capacity, she led the project 'Medical Education in a Changing Healthcare Landscape,' which aims to align the education of medical doctors with the Integraal Zorg Akkoord.

Since 2022, she has been a member of the Supervisory Board of Saxion University of Applied Sciences, and from 2015 to 2021, she served as an editorial board member of the leading scientific journal “British Journal of Anaesthesia”. Boer studied Biomedical Sciences at Leiden University and received her PhD from VU Amsterdam in 2001 with a dissertation titled “Pulmonary artery function and endotoxin: the dual role of nitric oxide”.

Boer was the initiator of the platform #Artsenvoorhetleven. This platform supports the movement within medical education toward regional healthcare and extramural professions, data, AI, and medical technology. She also initiated the app #zouikwatzeggen at Amsterdam UMC, which provides tips and reporting options for inappropriate behavior. This app has since been implemented in other institutions as well.
