The UvA pays constant attention to educational quality. The Educational Quality Policy Framework describes the university’s quality policy. This framework provides tools to give further shape to faculty quality assurance manuals.

The Educational Quality Policy Framework (2024) sets out a clear vision on educational quality, in which educational quality is debated at and between all levels of the institution. This ensures a strong culture of quality. After all, educational quality starts with a strong foundation (in terms of lecturers and units of study). The active involvement of lecturers and students in educational quality is therefore crucial. This framework highlights that importance.

Unlike previous frameworks, this new framework links the UvA’s vision on teaching and learning to the UvA’s Strategic Plan. Moreover, this framework visually illustrates for the first time how the various internal and external quality assurance cycles are connected. For example, there is now an extensive focus on studying with a disability, diversity and inclusion, and the professionalisation of teaching. All are an important part of the quality assurance cycles of the various degree programmes and of the institution itself.

Lastly, this framework makes clear what sources of information are available at what level to support the debate about educational quality and quality assurance.

Examples of these information sources are the management information system UvAdata, the student feedback system UvA Q and the results of the external assessments by the Accreditation Organisation of the Netherlands and Flanders (NVAO). Taking part in the NVAO’s Institutional Quality Assurance Audit (Instellingstoets Kwaliteitszorg, ITK) also contributes to maintaining our focus on educational quality. You can find the accreditation outcomes and information about the ITK on the NVAO website. In addition, you can go to the UvA website to read the recommendations arising from the development interviews (in Dutch) that the NVAO conducts with the degree programmes.
