Final steps to complete your enrolment

Now that you have been (un-)conditionally accepted to your programme there are some final steps to complete your enrolment. To help you, we have created an overview with all important information. You can find everything you need to arrange and know before you start your first day at the University of Amsterdam (UvA).

Step by step guide - September 2025 intake

  • 1. Confirm your participation to reserve your place in the programme - ASAP

You can confirm your participation from the moment you have been conditionally accepted to the programme. You reserve your place in the programme, and let the us know you would like to study with us. Confirm your participation in the programme as soon as possible before the deadline stated in your email.

How: Login to SIS, click on 'confirm' and choose one of the options.

If you have doubts, note that your confirmation is not binding. You can cancel your request for enrolment in Studielink at any time. However, a timely confirmation will allow us to continue all administrative procedures.

  • 2. UvA Matching

UvA Matching is a mandatory part of your application procedure. UvA Matching is an online introduction to the Bachelor’s programme you applied for. It is designed to assess whether your chosen programme is a good fit for you and if you are making the right study choice. By participating in UvA Matching you get to know your study programme and you experience studying at the University of Amsterdam. After completion, you will receive a personal study advice based on the outcome of the tests.

You can register for UvA Matching in your Enrolment Checklist.

  • 3. Follow the Visa procedure (Non-EU/EEA students) - end of May

If your nationality is other than EU/EEA, you will need a visa and/or residence permit to study in The Netherlands. Which one you will need depends on your country of citizenship.

After confirming your participation, you will be invited by email from UvA Student Services to start both the online visa/residence application and the final registration procedure at the UvA. They will also help you through the Visa procedure.

Questions about the Visa procedure? In your Enrolment Checklist, you will find the status of your Visa application. If you can't find the answer there, contact the UvA Immigation Team.

  • 4. Follow the UvA Short Stay Housing procedure (if applicable) - end of May

The UvA does not offer student housing on our campuses. We recommend that you familiarise yourself with the housing market in the Netherlands before you choose your study programme.  It can be difficult to find available housing in Amsterdam, so you will need to start looking for yourself as soon as possible via Dutch student housing websites. For international students, the UvA has limited number of rooms available throughout Amsterdam, which you can apply for via UvA Housing. Please note there are not enough rooms available via UvA Housing to accommodate all international students. As placement for UvA Housing is not guaranteed, we advise you to start your orientation for housing options early and to always explore the private housing market as well.

The UvA provides some rooms for international Bachelor's and Master's students who will study in The Netherlands for the first time.

    Housing application procedure:

    1. The Admissions Office checks if you're eligible for Student housing and sends your details to the UvA - International Student Housing office
    2. The UvA - International Student Housing will invite you to apply
    3. You fill out the form, pay the housing application fee to submit your application before the deadline
    4. After this, all applicants will be assigned a random place on the waiting list via a lottery.

Please note, due to the severe housing shortage in Amsterdam the demand exceeds our supply, so unfortunately, not all students who apply for student housing can get a room.

You can find all info about the eligibility, deadlines and the lottery on these pages:

Questions about Housing? In your Enrolment Checklist, you will find the status of your Housing application. If you can't find the answer there, contact the Student Housing Office

  • 5. Meet and Greet (optional) - June

Discover your future campus and meet your peers during the Meet & Greet in June. The exact date of this event will be announced later. After you have confirmed your participation, you will receive an invitation by email to register for the event. We would like to welcome you, given that you have the opportunity to attend.

  • 6. Complete the Admissions Survey

You will receive an email to fill out the admissions survey. Completing this survey is mandatory, so that we can arrange everything before you start your programme with us. Completing this survey ensures that we can:

    • Create and send your course schedule;
    • Organise the tutorial groups
    • Improve our student guidance
  • 7. Send certified copies of your documents - ASAP after you graduate

You can only start with the programme after we receive and verify all of your original and/or certified documents.

What is a certified copy: A certified copy is an official copy of the original document with an original stamp and signature of a representative of your home institution or a notary. This is therefore not the same as a photocopy of a certified document. Please do not send us the original documents as we are not responsible in case any documents get lost in the process. We are not able to return you the documents sent to us.

How: Transcripts, diplomas and Graduation Statements (if applicable) in any language other than English, Dutch, French or German should be submitted in their original language along with an official translation made by a sworn translator. Your conditional offer will specify which documents to send in and state the deadline for submission. Certified documents can be sent to the following address:

    Admissions Office, Central Student Administration
    University of Amsterdam
    Hogehilweg 21
    1101 CB Amsterdam
    The Netherlands

Depending on where you live, it may take a while before the UvA receives your documents. Please use registered mail and do not send in your original documents. Once the certified documents have been processed for application, they cannot be returned.

    Digital credential verification

If it is not possible to get certified copies because of school/ university closures, then digital versions of the required documents can be sent to the UvA Central Student Administration office. Please note they must be sent directly from your academic institution. Any submissions from student email addresses will be ignored.

IB-diplomas, Advanced Placement (AP) and A-level and O-level results from certain exam boards can be verified online by the University of Amsterdam. This enhances the speed of the verification process.  Whenever possible, students are requested to authorize the electronic verification of documents instead of sending post

In certain cases, your results can be verified digitally or can be sent directly from the exam board to the University of Amsterdam. For more information please visit uva.nl/onlineverification.

When: Please send your documents as soon as possible. The deadline for submission of certified documents is 31 August 2025. If you have already graduated and received your official diploma and transcript, then you are advised to send all certified documents as soon as you receive an conditional offer of admission.  If you are still completing your degree, please wait until you have all the necessary documents which have been requested, as this will minimize the chances of your documents being separated from each other.

If your diploma will not be issued before the deadline that applies to you, please send in an official Statement. In this Statement, your university needs to declare that you have fulfilled all graduation requirements and have graduated from the Bachelor's programme, stating your exact graduation date. This graduation date cannot be later than 1 September 2025. The Statement needs to be signed and stamped by your home institution.

Due to the volume of documents which we receive, we will not send you a confirmation upon receipt of individual documents; only once you have fulfilled all conditions.

Questions about your certified documents? In your enrolment Checklist, you can find the status of your admission. If you can't find the answer there, contact the Central Student Service Desk.

  • 8. Arrange insurance

    When: Before arrival.

Make sure you have proper insurance coverage for the duration of your studies. Health insurance, liability insurance and insurance against fire and theft are all required and/or recommended.

Questions about insurance? Please contact the UvA Central Student Service Desk.

  • 9. Your personal timetable + study books

The Student Administration will register you for your courses of the first year and will send you your personal timetable for the first block via email at the end of August.

From year 2, you will be responsible for your course registration. By that time, you will receive more information via email about how to register for courses.

Additional information:

  • Prepare for mathematics (Bachelor's Economics and Business/Bachelor's Fiscale Economie)

Prepare for Mathematics! If you want to start your studies optimally prepared, it’s essential to have your mathematical skills up to par. One effective way to achieve this is by participating in the mathematics summer school. By doing so, you’ll ensure that you have sufficient background knowledge for your first course. Don’t have time this summer? You can choose how much time to dedicate, whether it’s one day, one week, or one month.

The online summer school concludes with a test in the last week of August. If you pass this test, you’ll receive an exemption from the mathematics proficiency exam that all students must take during the first period of the year.

If you’ve studied Mathematics A in secondary school, we highly recommend the summer school. Our experience shows that students with a background in Mathematics A often struggle with the level of mathematical skills required. This includes solving exponential or logarithmic equations and inequalities. Students are often more accustomed to word problems rather than equation-solving.

The summer school provides an excellent opportunity to practice and start off on the right foot. If you performed poorly on the mathematics matching test, it’s possible that your mathematical background isn’t sufficient for the level of the first course. Therefore, we strongly encourage you to participate in the mathematics summer school to acquire the necessary mathematical knowledge before beginning your studies at UvA.

    Please note:

    • The mathematics summer school is only intended for students of Economics and Business Economics or Fiscale Economie.
    • This (optional) Mathematics Summer Course does not serve as a replacement for any mathematics requirements set by the Admissions Office (these conditions can be found in your admissions conditional offer).

    How to sign up?

    1. Go to the SOWISO website and log in with your UvANetID.
    2. After logging in, your account will be automatically created by SOWISO, and you’ll be added to the ‘Welcome class’.
    3. Visit the STORE and purchase: UvA - EB Mathematics Summer Course 2025 (costs: €37,50).
    4. After successful payment, the course should become visible right away (if not, please refresh your browser). 5. To continue practicing, go to the SOWISO website and log in with your UvANetID.

According to data, participants in the summer school achieved an average half-point higher score in Mathematics 1 for Economics. This suggests that the summer school provides valuable preparation for the course.

  • Prepare for mathematics (Bachelor's Actuarial Science, Bachelor's Business Analytics, Bachelor's Econometrics and Data Science)

Mathematics is an important component of your Bachelor’s programme. It is important that you make sure your mathematical knowledge is at the right level. The online Preparation Course Mathematics B offers you all mathematical topics you will need during the Bachelor's. You can decide how much time you spend practicing, this could be just 1 day, or 1 week or a month!

If you have scored insufficiently on the UvA Matching test, it may also be that your mathematical prior knowledge is insufficient to handle the level of the first year. That is why we strongly recommend that you take the mathematics course, so that you can acquire the necessary mathematical prior knowledge before starting at the UvA.

Data has shown that participants in a mathematics preparation course score on average half a grade higher in their first-year mathematics courses.

Who will benefit from the Preparation Course Mathematics B?

Even if you have taken Mathematics B (NL) in high school or a comparable mathematics course abroad and you are granted admission to one of our studies, the Preparation Course Mathematics B offered by Sowiso is highly recommended. This is especially true if you have not done other science courses. Our experience shows that first-year students in Actuarial Science, Business Analytics, and Econometrics often struggle with the required level of mathematics. In our studies, it is expected that you have a good command of elementary skills. This includes working with powers, solving elementary equations, working with elementary functions such as polynomials, exponential functions, logarithms and trigonometric functions.

Although there is some repetition of the material in the beginning of your studies, the course does focus on a new approach to your knowledge.

The digital online course from Sowiso is recommended for anyone who identifies with the above. You will be guided through all the necessary background knowledge, including differential calculus and integration techniques.

    How to sign up?

    1. Go to the SOWISO website and log in with your UvANetID
    2. After logging in, your account is automatically created on the SOWISO platform and added to a general ‘prep course Math B - 2025’
    3. Go to the STORE and purchase the ‘UvA – Mathematics prep course B’ (€40)
    4. After successful payment, the course should become visible right away (if not, please refresh your browser)
    5. To continue practicing, go to the SOWISO website and log in with your UvANetID
