As an AUV member, you will enjoy a variety of benefits and you can join one of the alumni circles.
Besides the circle activities for circle members, there are also several events for all AUV members. During these events, you’ll meet the broad UvA alumni network.
Through the alumni circles, you stay informed about developments within your field or discover new fields. You can easily meet fellow alumni or former colleagues, as there is also a circle for former UvA employees. The circles are managed by circle directors: enthusiastic volunteers who organise all kinds of activities for 'their' circle members. For example lectures, debates, networking drinks and excursions.
Alumni Talks is a series of meetings in which a number of circles together approach a topical theme from different angles and disciplines. The interdisciplinary meetings take place throughout the academic year and are separate from the activities the circles themselves organise for their circle members. These activities can be anything, from lecture to debate and from guided tours to film evenings. Or a combination of several activities.
AUV Young focuses on the young(er) alumni network. The programme offers interactive career training, networking meetings and mentoring programmes. Alumni develop practical career skills and get tools in mapping out their careers. With this programme, alumni easily connect with peers and can share experiences.

The AUV was founded in 1889 after a major fundraising campaign for the construction of the former auditorium in the Oudeman House Gate. The goals of the association at the time were to manage the funds and maintain the connection with alumni. The assets were later transferred to the Amsterdam University Fund, a foundation that helps ensure that the UvA remains an inspiring environment by supporting research, heritage and student facilities. Since then, the AUV has focused on maintaining as well as strengthening the bond with alumni.
The AUV has an active board that contributes to policies for UvA alumni. Board members work to recruit and retain members and recruit and support volunteers. In addition, board members have a role in developing AUV programming and activity formats. The board consists of volunteers.
