In this lecture, Mark Deuze explores what a good life in media can look like by applying the three basic principles of the 'Life in Media' project: media disappear, media are what we do, and we love media. Media play a crucial role in our lives: they give us power and agency. The main question, therefore, is: how can we ensure that our media bring us closer together?

Mark Deuze is Professor of Media Studies at the Faculty of Humanities at the University of Amsterdam. Previously, he worked as a journalist and academic in the United States at Indiana University Bloomington, in Germany at the University of Münster, and in South Africa at the University of Johannesburg.

Simone Peek is a journalist and editor at the foreign desk of NRC. She reports on the Russian war against Ukraine. Previously, she worked as an investigative journalist for Investico. She will moderate the discussion with Mark Deuze.
