Peter-Paul Verbeek is Rector Magnificus and a member of the Executive Board of the University of Amsterdam. He is also Professor of Philosophy and Ethics of Science and Technology in a Changing World at the University of Amsterdam. A central theme in Verbeek's work is the relationship between humans and technology, viewed from an ethical perspective. Previously, he was, among other roles, University Professor of Philosophy of Human-Technology Relations at the University of Twente, Honorary Professor of Techno-Anthropology at Aalborg University, Chair of the UNESCO World Commission for the Ethics of Science and Technology, and Chair of the KNAW Commission for the Freedom of Scientific Practice.
