The Bruine Kroeg: an Amsterdam phenomenon of a brown bar with beer taps, jenever and red tapestry. These places often fulfil the roll of a ‘third pace’. This means, next to your home and job space, a place for meeting people, community and fostering human connection. But sadly, due to influences like capitalism and gentrification, these places are disappearing.
How can we protect third places or find new venues to embody a place of community? So that we can stay practicing this essential part of being human? This night we discuss what it means to lose third spaces and the cultural heritage of the 'bruine kroeg'. We talk from angles like the municipality, queer bar placemaking, social science, a poetic perspective and of course a bruine kroeg owner him/herself. To finish this night, we'll invite you to join us at a 'bruine kroeg', to really experience and appreciate this urban sanctuary.

This year, the student programme makers are once again ready to provide you with surprising programmes where we go in-depth together. This year's team consists of Amara, Elle, Juju, Marije and Nika.
