An exhibition by Müge Yılmaz and students from the Gerrit Rietveld Academie
Through engaging in monthly activities such as field trips, workshops, and material research, students have developed a series of drawings and prints centered around their world building exercises of a fictional island called Salaxis. Müge's lecture at the outset of this research journey shed light on innovative proposals to environmental challenges posed by rising sea levels and ground subsidence. From cultivating salt-tolerant crops to exploring the speculative potential of salty water in a futuristic and science fiction based context, the exhibition offers unexpected perspectives on our relationship with the changing environment.
The exhibtion will be opened on 23 April (16:30 – 19:00) with the launch of the Climate Imaginaries at Sea zine #2. The exhibtion will remain open on 24 and 25 April between 9.00 and 17.00. Entree is free of charge.
The festival will take place at various locations in Amsterdam. On April 23rd, prior to the zine launch in VOX-POP, you can engage with the artists and their creative processes at Perdu. Leanne Betasamosake Simpson will provide a keynote lecture, during which she will use Michi Saagiig Nishnaabe's consciousness to dismantle the present moment and to ask what it means to listen to water.
