This independent board was established in January 2024 within the framework of the Future Pensions Act which came into force in July 2023. 

The board handles disputes between pension scheme participants and pension funds. Participation in the GIP is mandatory for all Dutch pension funds. The GIP consists of an ombudsman, a dispute resolution committee, and a Board of Appeal. The Board of Appeal hears cases in which a pension scheme participant appeals the decision of the dispute resolution committee. Professor Laeven is 1 of the 3 members of the Board of Appeal.
