The AVT and the Dutch Society for Applied Linguistics (Anéla) annually gives out an award for a dissertation in the area of linguistics. Ulrika was awarded the prize for her dissertation 'A descriptive grammar of Sign Language of the Netherlands', which she carried out at the ACLC and defended on 5 March 2021.

Her dissertation describes the sociohistorical background, phonology, morphology, and syntax of Dutch Sign Language. It is one of the first complete grammatical descriptions of a sign language ever, and the jury describes it as an excellent blueprint for future work in the area. Additionally, the thesis contributes to the promotion of Dutch Sign Language as a recently recognised minority language in the Netherlands.
