The University of Amsterdam's Philosophy Research Master's programme is the most extensive of its kind in the Netherlands and attracts students from all over the world. It is highly regarded in terms of research and teaching quality and consistently voted best in the Netherlands in the QS World University Rankings by Subject. The programme familiarises you with one or more sub-areas of philosophy. It covers a wide range of topics and perspectives, and has a strong international focus. Both Anglo-Saxon and European philosophy are studied. You can choose to specialise in one of the following areas:
You acquire the skills to formulate, analyse and discuss philosophical problems, as well as to formulate and present targeted research questions within a broader research plan. The programme offers an excellent opportunity to students who are interested in pursuing a PhD in Philosophy.
The programme covers a wide range of philosophical methodologies and tradition. At the same time, it gives you the possibility to design a substantial part of your study (through electives and tutorials for 2-6 students only), providing a challenging and stimulating experience. Each year the Research Master's in Philosophy selects only a limited number of students, ensuring that mandatory seminars are lively and interactive.
