The research projects within the Master's programme in Security and Network Engineering are guided by the top-notch research groups within the research theme Security & Networking.

The Master's programme also has close ties with the Netherlands Forensics Institute (NFI).

Educational Team 

The Security and Network Engineering programme is led by dr Ana Oprescu (programme director), with the help of dr Kostas Papagiannopoulos (programme developer). Our educational team consists of great minds such as dr Chrysa Papagianni, dr Francesco Regazzoni, prof. dr Paola Grosso, Jaap van Ginkel, Roy Vermeulen, Vincent Breider, and Niels Sijm.  

Assistant Professor Kostas Papagiannopoulos 

Education: PhD in Applied Cryptography and Hardware Security (Radboud University) . Position at UvA: Lecturer and educational program developer SNE.

'Arriving in the Netherlands in 2011, I have encountered an exciting field of work in Cybersecurity. A strong public education sector fosters open science, academic collaborations and innovative technological research. Coupled with an active industrial sector, this has made the country an important hub for cryptography, security and privacy technologies, while addressing our societal needs for fairness, cooperation, transparency and justice in the digital world. My education here led me to work deeper in the field of hardware security and secure semiconductors, making sure that the electronic devices we use daily to communicate guarantee our security, privacy and digital sovereignity.'

'I wasn't really planning on going abroad for my Master's, but this programme fit my profile so well that I decided to come to Amsterdam. The practical character of this Master's programme really appealed to me. Most Master's in this field are quite theoretical, with lots of papers and not a lot of action.'
