Alumna Lisa de Goffau tells about her career after the Master's programme Jewish Studies.
Specialists in the Middle East go on to work in roles both at home and abroad which require an academic level of thought and practice:
at international companies with branches in the Middle East (as an interpreter/translator);
at government bodies (Ministry of Foreign Affairs);
in teaching, journalism and a variety of media companies.
Graduates of Jewish Studies find it relatively easy to find work in the Jewish cultural sector and Jewish heritage and expertise sector, both in Amsterdam and elsewhere. The programme provides a thorough knowledge of Jewish cultural history, a solid grasp of original sources and the ability to relate these sources to historical and contemporary questions and debates.
The programme offers great opportunities for graduate students who wish to prepare for a PhD in Jewish studies or consider a career in the Jewish heritage sector (Jewish libraries, archives and museums). Graduates are also perfectly equipped for various other professions that require academic knowledge and skills, including: the publishing sector, translation work, education, journalism, media, and policy making (government, NGO).
