  • Profile

I am a PhD candidate in the Social Psychology department, and I research nonverbal vocalisations (like, sighs, groans and laughter) and the situations that give rise to them. I’m also interested in music, specifically human song, and the emotional responses music gives rise to. I use citizen science methods, such as gamified online experiments, to diversify participant pools and reach large numbers of people around the world.

    • Nonverbal Vocalisations in Context: What kinds of sounds do people around the world make? And what kinds of situations give rise to those sounds? In this project, I’m interested in exploring the varied ways we use vocalisations, without assuming a priori that they serve purely communicative functions.
    • Emotions in Music: In this line of work, I’m researching the emotions people report experiencing in response to music, whether it’s a top-of-the-charts pop song, or a lullaby recorded in a remote culture.
