    Tjerk Jan werkt aan transformaties in de gezondheidszorg op het snijvlak van individuele gezondheid en houdbaarheid van gezondheidszorgsystemen. Hij co-creëert onderwijs- en onderzoeksprogramma's om de transformatie naar zorg voor gezondheid te bevorderen. Na zijn afstuderen als neurobioloog promoveerde hij binnen de politieke wetenschappen. Zijn proefschrift gaat over persistente problemen in de Nederlandse gezondheidszorg. Zijn onderzoekscarrière richtte zich vervolgens op het transdisciplinair adresseren van deze complexe problemen. Als docent ontwikkelde Tjerk Jan een breed scala aan (honours)vakken over de wisselwerking tussen wetenschap, technologie en maatschappij.

    • Met Welzijn op Recept werkt hij aan de implementatie van een domeinoversteigend gezondheidszorgconcept.
    • Binnen Doing eHealth Right draagt hij bij aan inclusieve eHealth ontwikkeling. 
    • Als projectleider van NATURELAB, een Europees consortium dat de voordelen van op de natuur gebaseerde therapieën onderzoekt, past hij NBT's in binnen bestaande gezondheidszorgstructuren.
    • Binnen Leren en Verbeteren in de zorg werkte hij samen met ZonMW aan methodiekontwikkeling en onderzoek voor continu leren en verbeteren. 
    • Hij monitorde en evalueerde HiNoord! dat werkte aan de versnelling van de transitie naar zorg voor gezondheid, in tegenstelling tot zorg voor ziekte. 
    • Hij heeft met ZiNL gewerkt aan Green Metrics; het meenemen van milieueffecten in HTA. 
    • Hij was werkpakketleider leader binnen het PARADIGM consortium gericht op het ontwikkelen van tools voor het monitoren en evalueren van de waarde en impact van patiëntenbetrokkenheid. 
    • Binnen 'Het Bewustzijnsproject' ondersteunde hij de implementatie van hoogwaardige kostenbewuste zorgprojecten. 
    • Met SUPREME NUDGE werkte hij aan het ondersteunen van een gezonde levensstijl via supermarkten om niet-overdraagbare ziekten zoals diabetes te bestrijden.
