Mijn promotieonderzoek gaat over burgerschapscompetenties van jongeren. Ik was betrokken bij de Nederlandse deelname aan de International Civic and Citizenship Education Study (ICCS) 2022 - een grootschalig internationaal vergelijkend onderzoek dat burgerschapsonderwijs en burgerschapscompetenties van leerlingen in de tweede klas van het voortgezet onderwijs in kaart heeft gebracht. Momenteel doe ik op basis van de ICCS-data en aanvullende data verdiepend onderzoek naar individuele en contextuele factoren die samenhangen met (verschillen in) houdingen en maatschappelijke betrokkenheid van jongeren. Zo ben ik bijvoorbeeld geïnteresseerd in de rol van houdingen van ouders en leeftijdsgenoten, zorgen over de toekomst en kennis over burgerschap en democratie.
