    David Blanco-Herrero (PhD, University of Salamanca, Spain) is a postdoctoral researcher at the Amsterdam School of Communication Research (ASCoR) at the University of Amsterdam. He holds a bachelor’s in Business Management (2014, University of León, Spain) and in Journalism (Distance University of madrid, Spain), as well as a master’s in Audiovisual Communication (University of Salamanca, Spain). His current work is mostly conducted as part of the BePrepared Consortium, funded by the ZonMw, and focuses on the role of journalists and other intermediaries in dealing with misinformation during health crises. More broadly, his lines of work tackle not only misinformation, but also hate speech (especially anti-immigration discourses), as well as journalism. He is part of international consortia, like the Worlds of Journalism Study, the Journalistic Role Performance project, or the Cost Action OPINION. He is editor of the Anuario Electrónico de Estudios en Comunicación Social “Disertaciones”, published by the Universidad del Rosario (Colombia).

    Current research projects

    • BePrepared Consortium
      Together with professors Toni van der Meer and Bas van den Putte, we seek understand the role of intermediaries in dealing with misinformation during a health crisis like the Covid-19 pandemic. This project is part of a consortium with other Dutch universities funded by ZonMw.
    • Journalistic Role Performance
      Member of the team in charge of Venezuela. This project studies journalistic roles comparing the performance of these roles in the news media and the perceived roles expressed by journalists.
    • Worlds of Journalism Study
      Member of the team in charge of Venezuela. This project is the biggest international study analyzing the perceptions of journalists about their profession.
