The READJUST project will explore how green and digital transitions in the food and mobility sectors can reduce economic and social inequalities. At the same time, the researchers will focus on how European policies in these areas could be implemented.
European society is engaged in a twin transition towards using sustainability and digitisation to address social issues. READJUST focuses on the food and mobility sectors because of the critical and strategic role these industries play in the European economy. They are sectors that could have a high potential impact in achieving a fair and inclusive transition. Some of the aspects that will be studied are institutional (such as finance and education) and technological (such as green and smart energy and agricultural technologies). The factors identified by the researchers will be carefully analysed so they can be used in ways that won't unintentionally increase inequalities.
Researchers will thoroughly analyse the factors that enable or hinder fair transitions that could lead to a more equitable future. 'We will then propose policy interventions that can promote inclusivity, so no one is left behind', says Zadeh. READJUST is a collaborative effort with various European partners in Germany, Spain, Finland and Belgium. UvA Economics and Business will play a crucial role in facilitating interdisciplinary research with its partners across Europe.
This initiative reflects UVA EB’s commitment to contributing to addressing societal challenges. READJUST is an opportunity to actively participate in developing strategies that ensure all layers of society benefit from green and digital transitions. The UvA EB researchers will provide updates on the project’s progress and impact in 2025.
