Guda van Noort, UvA professor of Persuasion & New Media Technologies, has been appointed by Finance Minister Heinen as a member of the supervisory board of the Netherlands Authority for the Financial Markets (AFM). The appointment is effective 1 September 2024 for a period of four years.
Guda van Noort: 'I hope to make a meaningful contribution to the challenging tasks that the AFM will face in the coming years'

Van Noort on her appointment: ‘Because of the challenging and crucial role that the AFM plays in society, my drive to make a social contribution, my scientific expertise in the digital society, technology and consumer behaviour, my broad interest in technological developments, experience with strategic issues and ethical dilemmas and my broad network, I hope to make a meaningful contribution to the challenging tasks in the field of sustainability and digitalisation that the AFM will face in the coming years.’

Researcher and director

Van Noort has extensive experience as a researcher and director. Since 2019, she has been a professor at the chair of Persuasion & New Media Technologies at the University of Amsterdam. From 2015 to 2022, she was director of the Foundation for Scientific Research into Commercial Communication (SWOCC).
Van Noort is also a board member of the Dutch Research Council (NWO), a member of the Data-Driven Marketing Association Compliance Committee and a member of the Advisory Board of the Association for Advertising Law. Furthermore, she was a member of the Advisory Board of the Netherlands Gambling Authority until September 2024.

About the AFM

The Netherlands Authority for the Financial Markets is the Dutch supervisor of the financial markets. The AFM is autonomous; the Minister of Finance has ultimate political responsibility and appoints and dismisses the directors. The AFM Supervisory Board supervises the policy of the AFM board and the general course of affairs. The supervisory board also supervises the business and management aspects of the AFM, such as the budget.
