Most researchers are familiar with informing research participants directly when seeking their consent to participate in a research project. However, the EU privacy law (GDPR) also requires researchers to inform people whose data is collected from other sources, such as social media, corpora, newspaper articles or archives.

During this info session, the privacy officer of the Faculty of Humanities, Dario Boot, will walk you through the information provision obligation under the GDPR. Under which circumstances are you obliged to inform people about your research using their personal data? How can you inform them best to comply with the GDPR? Furthermore, our data steward Kamran Adeli will introduce you to the privacy protection review in the Humanities Research Management Services (RMS) portal which is used to assess individual research projects on GDPR compliance.
