To support academics in choosing collaboration partners, the UvA has set up an advisory committee in 2021. For example, to prevent data from research from being used by parties that violate human rights or have terrorist or military motives.

Who sits on the advisory committee?

The committee consists of experienced academics and policy officers from all UvA faculties and meets regularly to discuss cases submitted by researchers, research directors or other UvA bodies.

What does the advisory committee do?

The committee advises the Executive Board and deans on new research collaborations and is primarily focused on helping researchers with ethical issues. The committee also provides a step-by-step plan to help researchers assess their concerns about potential unethical use by third parties. In the coming months, we will evaluate whether the current guidelines for collaboration need to be revised. Researchers can find more information here (in Dutch, login required).
