Brain and Cognitive Sciences
You can apply for up to two domains and your application will be reviewed separately for each domain you indicate. If you are found admissible into multiple domains, you will be added to your domain of first choice. Changing domains once you are found admissible is not possible.
The key question is whether you've been studying cognition or neuroscience before. The programme is interdisciplinary, but does require a solid base to work with. If your degree did not touch on cognitive science, psychology, neurobiology or other fields that are clearly within the range of brain and cognitive sciences, then it is unlikely your theoretical basis is strong enough to warrant entry into the programme.
We do not organise a pre-master, but there are minor programmes in cognitive neuroscience that could help you prepare for our programme. As for courses: introductory courses on cognition or neuroscience (or both) boost your odds, as do courses on research-intensive skills, such as scientific programming or statistics.
No. Recently, these rules have been changed. Your application won't be reviewed if your results for the English language test will be available past the deadline.
The Admissions Board is interested in seeing your level of scientific writing and thinking. So an individual assignment that demonstrates your academic capacities is also helpful. If you will have a bachelor's thesis later on in the year, you can always send it to us and we can update your application.
Please see this page for an up-to-date overview of the scholarships that are available at the University of Amsterdam. Our programme is hosted at the Faculty of Science.
MBCS is a full-time programme (60 EC per year), so combining it with another programme is only possible if you extend your study duration. That being said, there is nothing preventing you from registering and studying in multiple master programmes. If the level and content allows it, it might even be possible to use particular electives in multiple programmes. Note that it is not possible to have research projects count for multiple programmes.
From January onwards, processing time will be between 3 and 4 weeks. There are three possible outcomes for this:
