A microcredential is a digital certificate that allows professionals to demonstrate acquired knowledge and skills after successful completion of an individual teaching unit (3 - 30 EC). Micocredentials guarantee the quality of the education followed, as each unit of study must meet a number of quality requirements. The education is accreditation-worthy, embedded in a quality assurance process, and designed to achieve learning outcomes. Achieved microcredentials are also traceable and verifiable. They are issued nationwide and registered via SURF's Edubadge service.
Starting September 2024, the UvA Informatics Institute offers two courses for which you can get a microcredential after succesfully completing the course:
Please note: You will need to follow these steps for both Scientific Programming 1 and Scientific Programming 2 individually if you would like to obtain a microcredential for both courses.
Microcredentials enable professionals to continually advance their career paths and lifelong learning journeys, with courses recognized for their quality by both educational institutions and employers. It offers an easily accessible way to professionals to further develop themselves in line with personal learning goals and the rapidly changing work environment.
After succesfully completing Scientific Programming 1 or 2 by completing all the assignments and passing the exam, your personal badge (microcredential) will be created. You will receive an e-mail from us when your badge is ready including instructions about how you can collect your digital badge.
You can only apply for a microcredential before the start of the course. You can apply for an microcredential by filling in the registration form on the website after which you will receive an e-mail from us with instructions on how to complete the application for a microcredential. You cannot apply for a microcredential anymore once the course has started.
After successfully completing the course you will receive a paper certificate of the University of Amsterdam stating that you completed the course.
If you opted for a microcredential, you will also receive an additional digital certificate (microcredential) after successfully completing the course. Microcredentials are exclusively issued through edubadges, the national platform for digital certificates in Dutch education. Thus, you will receive the microcredential solely as a digital badge. It is not possible to obtain a microcredential in paper form.
Microcredentials are issued via edubadges. An edubadge is a digital certificate that allows the recipient to demonstrate the learning outcomes and skills they possess. Edubadges can be easily shared with employers or educational institutions, for example, through LinkedIn. By clicking on the edubadge you get access to all the learning skills and details of a course. That way external parties, such as employers and educational institutions, can view and authenticate an edubadge.
You can only receive a microcredential for editions of Scientific Programming 1 or Scientific Programming 2 that started in September 2024 or later. If you started with one of the Scientific Programming courses before September 2024, it is unfortunately not possible to retroactively award a microcredential for a course.
