Do you want to address a complex research question that has been keeping scientists busy since the beginning of time? Do you want to master the skills to work efficiently as a specialist in an interdisciplinary team? Do you like to learn by doing? In this minor you will work on a research project within the field of Origin of Life in an interdisciplinary team of students and help researchers bring together the pieces of the puzzle.
The Origins Interspecial minor will introduce the basics of Origin of Life research and some of the many open questions. At the same time, it will include a research project in which you in a small interdisciplinary team of students, will incorporate your expert knowledge to an origin-of-life related questions proposed by researchers at the University of Amsterdam. At the end of the minor each interdisciplinary team presents their research project during a symposium. The goal of Origins Interspecial is to provide you with expertise and experience in working as a specialist in interdisciplinary teams.
The minor consists of one fulltime semester-long 30 EC course. You will start with seminars and lectures that introduce you to the theoretical basics of Origin of Life and interdisciplinary research. In parallel, you will receive workshops on 21st century skills such as project management, collaboration skills, cultural and disciplinary awareness, interdisciplinary communication and open science.
This full-time 30 EC minor is open to motivated students from all natural sciences disciplines, but particularly interesting for students of Physics and Astronomy, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics, Artificial Intelligence, Informatics, Information Science and Bèta-Gamma. English language proficiency is required. International students are welcome.
The maximum number of students in the minor programme is 24.
