The Dutch minor is a language proficiency minor for students whose native language is not Dutch. With this minor, you are prepared, as a non-Dutch-speaking student, for subsequent education in Dutch or a position in the Dutch labour market.
In the first semester, the language of instruction of the language proficiency courses is a combination of English and Dutch. In the second semester, the language of instruction is Dutch. The course ‘The World in Languages’ (De wereld in talen) is offered both in Dutch and English.
The programme is partly provided by the Institute for Dutch Language Education (INTT).
This minor is offered by the Faculty of Humanities. The faculty’s minors consist of 30 ECTS credits and earn you a second qualification that will be listed on the transcript accompanying your degree certificate.
You may choose between 'De wereld in talen' and 'The World in Languages'.
The minor is exclusively available to students whose native language is not Dutch and who are enrolled in an English-language Bachelor’s degree programme of the Faculty of Humanities (FGw) or an English language track within a bilingual Bachelor’s programme of the FGw. Following registration, all prospective participants have an intake interview with the INTT to determine their language proficiency level. Students with knowledge of Dutch can enter at a higher level and achieve a higher final level. If your proficiency level is already too advanced, you will only be able to take the most advanced courses as free electives, but you cannot complete the minor Dutch.
The registration period for a minor in the academic year 2025-2026 will start in Spring 2025.
