After having completed the Master's Programme, graduates can apply for a post-Master teacher training programme. Organised by the Graduate School of Child Development and Education (or equivalent programmes such as Trainees in Onderwijs), the post-Master enables you to obtain a grade-one teacher qualification. You will need to be proficient in Dutch to enrol in these programmes.
Students who already have a teaching qualification may improve their chances on the educational job market after the completion of the Master’s Language, Literature and Education.
Although the programme is geared towards students who want to continue in education, you will gain a valuable foundation for a variety of professions. In the courses and the internship, students develop excellent writing and public speaking skills that will benefit them in a wide variety of professional contexts. Graduates will be able to pursue a career in an advisory capacity at educational organisations or the media.
Graduates may also opt to apply for a PhD position at the UvA, another Dutch university or a university abroad. If you are interested in pursuing an academic career, it is advisable to discuss the possibility of joining the two-year Research Master’s programme in Literary Studies or Linguistics and Communication at the UvA.
