Marjolein Uittenbogaard is a PhD candidate at the University of Amsterdam and Tallinn University. Her research focusses on diasporic and digital storytelling, specifically concerning the Bosnian diaspora and the narrativization of its experiences of mass-violence induced displacement. She researches oral, cultural and digital narratives, thereby aiming to shed light on the diaspora's (trans)national links and the impact of the digital condition on diasporic remembering. Her project is embedded in the Horizon Europe research project DIGHT-Net: Sustainable, Usable, and Visible Digital Cultural Heritage: Twinning for Excellence, which is a collaborative project between Tallinn University, the University of Bologna, the University of Amsterdam, and the University of Turku.
Marjolein previously worked as a research employee at the NIOD Institute for War, Holocaust and Genocide Studies in Amsterdam. Furthermore, she holds a BA in European Studies from the University of Amsterdam, and an MA in Global History (cum laude) from the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam.
