I am an assistant professor at the Department of Political Science, University of Amsterdam and a research fellow with the ERC project on Election, Violence, and Parties. I am also affiliated with Amsterdam Institute of Social Science Research, Political Economy and Transnational Governance, Amsterdam Centre for Conflict Studies, and Amsterdam Conflict Research Network.

Research expertise

My research interests span the fields of political economy and comparative politics. Currently, I study the political consequences of inequality in non-violent contexts (such as, electoral volatility, formation of party systems, performance of political parties, ethnic voting) and violent contexts (ethno-religious riots).

Research methods

I specialize in research methods as a field in itself. I employ diverse methods, combining statistical analysis of large secondary datasets with experiments, surveys, and case studies. I have designed and implemented a national survey in India, survey experiments in West Bengal and Uttar Pradesh (India), and have conducted field research in Dhaka (Bangladesh).
