Yunhan Peng studied Spanish Philology at Sichuan University in China and obtained an Erasmus Mundus Master of Euroculture degree from the University of Goettingen and University of Deusto. Her Bachelor’s thesis focused on the social integration of Chinese entrepreneurs in Spain while Master’s thesis was based on the study of European themed residential communities and spaces of otherness in contemporary China. She was a lecturer at Chongqing Institute of Foreign Studies for about 3 years before embarking on my PhD study.

She is currently a PhD candidate at the department of Anthropology at UvA, with a focus of investigating the role of Spanish and Chinese translators in the creation of global labour markets in the context of everyday linguistic and working linguistic practices of Spanish and Chinese speaking workers. She has carried out fieldwork in Chengdu (China) and Monterrey (Mexico), which provide industrial sites whereby Spanish and Chinese speaking workers interact and form and re-form language ideologies.
