I am a PhD candidate working at the Evolutionary and Population Biology Department within the Institute for Biodiversity and Ecosystem Dynamics, University of Amsterdam.
My work aims to understand how population dynamics respond to landscape change, I do so by modelling approaches. My research line focusses on predator-prey dynamics in conservation biological control and, simultaneously, increasing biodiversity in agricultural landscapes.
My work aims to understand how population dynamics respond to landscape change, I do so by modelling approaches. My research line focusses on predator-prey dynamics in conservation biological control and, simultaneously, increasing biodiversity in agricultural landscapes.
Currently, I am working on a model that can simulate the dynamics of flower feeding natural enemies that have a predatory larval phase (e.g. hoverflies) where they consume pest prey (e.g. aphids). This model enables us to study the impact of landscape changes and management techniques on pest densities in crops. Model results can be used to formulate recommendations for farmers and policy maker on optimal land-use and management techniques. These recommendations should contribute to more reliable natural pest control, a reduction in the use of pesticides, and an increase of farmland biodiversity.
My PhD research is supported by the FRAMEwork project. This project has received funding from the European Union's Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No. 862731.
Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Council of IBED - treasurer
The Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Council aims to improve diversity and inclusion at IBED. Through surveys, we assess the current state of diversity and inclusion and monitor progress over time. We also provide recommendations and guidance on actions to improve the working environment in terms of diversity, inclusivity, and safety. The DEI Council consists of representatives from various research departments and career stages.
Alternative Mental and Physical Architecture (AMPA) - council member
At AMPA we create a community for students and employees of the UvA with disabilities, neurodivergence and chronic illnesses.
Social media team of FRAMEwork
I have been involved with promoting the FRAMEwork project through social media. Within the social media team, I have founded a seperate group where we have created a Video Abstract workflow to make it easier for researchers to make video media about their research. More information can be found shortly at Home (recodo.io).
What I have previously worked on:
