Dr A.A. (Alvaro) Lopez Navarro

Alvaro Lopez is a researcher at ASCA (Amsterdam School for Cultural Analysis). His fields are psychoanalysis and media studies within the scope of cultural analysis. Alvaro’s research focuses on the relationship between the media, contemporary transformations in society and culture, and the asymmetrical dynamics binding the US, Europe, and Latin America. In particular, Alvaro examines horror media as a means to analyze the shifting relationship between anxiety and desire across these broad and heterogeneous geopolitical contexts. Alvaro has also been a lecturer in the Department of Media Studies (University of Amsterdam), a lecturer in Media, Gender, and Postcolonial Studies in the Department of Media and Culture Studies (Utrecht University), and the inter-university course coordinator for critical approaches to Social Innovation in the Global Challenges for Sustainability master’s program (Utrecht University, University of Montpellier, University of Barcelona, Trinity College Dublin, ELTE Budapest).
