I am a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Amsterdam. My work explores the politics and poetics of geographical representation, focusing particularly on images of the Earth as a whole.
My current project, Untimely World Pictures: Challenging the Anthropocene Through Historical Representations of the Global Environment (2021-2025), is funded by a prestigious Veni grant from the Dutch Research Council.
I received an MRes in Theatre and Performance Studies (with distinction) from the University of Warwick in 2012 and PhD in Cultural Analysis (cum laude) from the University of Amsterdam in 2017.
I am the author of a monograph, Mapping Beyond Measure: Art, Cartography, and the Space of Global Modernity (Nebraska UP, 2019), and co-editor of Heterotopia and Globalisation in the Twenty-First Century (with Irina Souch & Daan Wesselman, Routledge, 2020) and Other Globes: Past and Peripheral Imaginations of Globalization (with Irene Villaescusa-Illán & Esther Peeren Palgrave, 2019).
I have taught art history at the University of Warwick, visual culture at Amsterdam University College, and globalization studies at the University of Amsterdam.
Born in Reading in the United Kingdom, I now live in Hoorn in the Netherlands.
