My research focuses on how youth learn to interpret the behavior of the people around them. Some youths’ histories may predispose them to distrust others and expect the worst. Such hostile interpretations may contribute to the development of aggressive behavior problems. They may also affect the therapeutic process, making it harder for these youth to trust their therapist. My work aims to improve our understanding of how hostile expectations may develop, and how therapists may promote youths’ motivation for treatment.
Research topics include:
- Aggressive behavior problems
- Social information processing
