I am professor in the Department of Political Science at the University of Amsterdam where I am a member of the research group Political Economy and Transnational Governance. My research interests focus on political violence, organized crime, and electoral processes in the Global South. My research has been funded by a Veni grant from the Dutch Science Foundation (NWO), a Career Integration Grant from the European Commission's Marie Curie Actions, and the U.S. Department of Defense Minerva Research Initiative. From 2020-2025, I am principal investigator of the project "Elections, Violence, and Parties," funded by the European Research Council.
