Mark Boukes (PhD, 2015) is Associate Professor of Corporate Communication (“Universitair Hoofddocent”) in the department of Communication Science at the University of Amsterdam. My research interests include, but are definitively not limited to, journalism, media effects, infotainment, and (digital) research methods. In 2022, I received the "Early Career Scholar Award" of the International Communication Association. My research has been recognized with multiple awards (e.g., 5 ICA Top Paper awards) and prestigious grants (e.g., NWO Veni, NWO Vidi).
I am editorial board member of three international journals and achieved 50+ well-cited peer-reviewed publications with a wide range of co-authors that appeared in flagship journals. I served on three ICA committees, and am the incoming Vice-chair (elect) for the Mass Communication Division of ICA. I have rich teaching and coordination experience, and am an experienced supervisor of graduate students.
I am a member of the "Programme Committee Communication Science" and the "Erasmus Mundus Exam Committee". Besides, I am founding member of Mediaraad Amstelveen, advisor for the Stimuleringsfonds voor de Journalistiek, and advisory board member of the NTR (Dutch public broadcaster).
