  • Profile

Henny Bos (pronouns: she/her/hers), Ph.D., is a Professor of Sexual and Gender Diversity in Families and Youth at the University of Amsterdam's Research Institute of Child Development and Education (RICDE). Her research and teaching focus on children from planned families with lesbian mothers and gay fathers, as well as on same-sex attracted youth, including lesbian, gay, bisexual, and gender nonconforming individuals.  Professor Bos has supervised Ph.D. candidates on both topics and is involved in various international studies. These include the U.S. National Longitudinal Lesbian Family Study, in collaboration with colleagues from the Williams Institute at the University of California, Los Angeles; a study of gay fathers in the Netherlands, France, and the UK, working with colleagues from the Centre for Family Research at the University of Cambridge; and an international study exploring the unique socialization processes in families led by sexual minority parents, in collaboration with colleagues from the University of Rome Tor Vergata. Professor Bos has been recognized for her teaching excellence, having received the "Teacher of the Year" award at the Research Institute of Child Development and Education three times (2007, 2016 and 2017). She is a fellow of Division 44 (Society for the Psychology of Sexual Orientation and Gender Diversity) of the American Psychological Association and was honored with the Distinguished Scientific Contribution Award from this Division in 2017. Additionally, in 2019, she received the Emde Boas - Van Ussel Award from the Dutch Society of Sexuality.
