Mario Maas will be working to intensify the further development and valorisation of imaging biomarkers, focusing specifically on musculoskeletal radiology in the field of Metabolic Diseases, Oncology and Clinical Immunology. He will also be working to further professionalise sports radiology within the field of Sports Traumatology. If all goes to plan, this will involve the establishment of a multidisciplinary expertise centre.
Maas’s mandate also extends to teaching: he will be working to encourage the implementation of educational reform and interdisciplinary cooperative learning. In his capacity as member of the Radiological Society of the Netherlands, Maas will focus on both national and international radiology, and will work in collaboration with the European Society of Radiology and European School of Radiology.
Maas currently serves as a staff member at the AMC-UvA’s department of Radiology. As head of the Radiology department’s musculoskeletal section, he is responsible for training and supervising students and fellows in becoming skeletal radiologists. Maas is also a member of various bodies, such as the European Society of Skeletal Radiology Teaching Committee, and serves as chairman of the Teaching Committee at the Radiological Society of the Netherlands and the European School of Radiology.
Maas has published over 120 peer-reviewed articles in academic journals such as the American Journal of Sports Medicine, American Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery, Radiology, European Radiology, Skeletal Radiology, Blood Cells, Molecules and Diseases Journal and Paediatric Radiology. He serves as co-editor of the European Journal of Radiology, where he is responsible for both Skeletal Radiology and Education.
