Dr C.B.L.M. Majoie (1961) has been appointed Professor of Neuroradiology in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Amsterdam (AMC-UvA).
Charles Majoie has built up a large body of research in the field of diagnostics and endovascular treatment of neurovascular conditions, and in the development and applications of advanced MRI techniques. His research in the coming years will focus in particular on imaging tests and endovascular treatment of cerebral haemorrhage and ischemic stroke, and on the application and evaluation of advanced MRI techniques for neurodegenerative conditions, with a view to detecting and quantifying abnormalities at an early stage and investigating links with cognitive functioning.
Majoie is head of the Neuroradiology Department at the AMC-UvA and research leader in Neuroradiology, with a particular emphasis on neurovascular diseases. He has also been an instructor in the AMC-UvA Neuroradiology Fellowship programme since 2006. In 2009, Majoie and three fellow researchers received a large grant from the Dutch Heart Association (Hartstichting) to fund a study on endovascular treatment of acute Ischemic stroke. His work has been published in a range of academic journals including Stroke, Brain, American Journal of Neuroradiology and Medical Physics.
