Edith Hooge will succeed Geert ten Dam, whose second term of office will soon expire. As of the same date, Hooge will be appointed professor of Education Management and Policy at the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences.
‘Edith Hooge is an experienced administrator with academic stature,' explains Supervisory Board chair Marise Voskens. 'With her vision and experience, she will, as president of the Executive Board and as a team player, steer the course of the UvA through waters currently full of challenges for the university world. Her academic roots lie at the UvA and her profile is an excellent fit with our university.'
Hooge is an old acquaintance in Amsterdam: she studied Educational Sciences at the UvA and also obtained her PhD here, for research into increasing autonomy and deregulation in education. From 2017 until her appointment to the Education Council in 2019, she was a member of the Supervisory Board of the UvA; she was nominated for that purpose by the central advisory body councils.
‘It is an honour to be appointed to this position. I feel a great commitment to the UvA and have been a student, PhD candidate, employee and later supervisor here. This will allow me to empathise with the perspectives of various stakeholders within the university. I look forward to working with them to shape the future of the UvA,' says Hooge.
In 2019, Edith Hooge was appointed chair of the Education Council, the independent advisory board for government and parliament in the field of education, educational policy and legislation. In addition, she has worked as professor of Boards and Governance in Education at TIAS, Tilburg University since 2012. Her teaching and research focus on policy and governance in the education sector. Prior to her professorship in Tilburg, Hooge was lecturer in School and Environment in the Big City at the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences and lecturer in Corporate Governance at Avans University of Applied Sciences.
