Our reality is increasingly being consumed by the virtual world. This is evident, for example, in the rise of generative artificial intelligence. Nowadays, we live our lives not only with the media but also within the media. What does it then still mean to be human? And what does it mean to lead a good life?

In this lecture, Mark Deuze explores what a good life in media can look like by applying the three basic principles of the 'Life in Media' project: media disappear, media are what we do, and we love media. Media play a crucial role in our lives: they give us power and agency. The main question, therefore, is: how can we ensure that our media bring us closer together?
