Stefania Milan

Stefania Milan is a Professor of Critical Data Studies at the University of Amsterdam, specializing in political participation, technology, and governance. Stefania holds a PhD in Political and Social Science from the European University Institute. She has recently been awarded an Advanced Grant from the European Research Council for the project ‘Governance by data infrastructure in the post-pandemic democracy” (DATAGOV). She will speak about this project, which shows how data-driven governance impacts democracies, during her presentation. 

Oliver Bayley

Oliver Bayley is a post-doctoral researcher in the Noël Research Group. His research focuses on the development of the autonomous synthesis platform, RoboChem. Bayley has spent his recent years at The University of Bristol (United Kingdom) where he was working towards his PhD on the development of novel molecular machines. After defending his PhD thesis in 2023, he moved to Amsterdam to work as a post-doctoral researcher under Prof. Dr. ing. Timothy Noël and Dr. Andrea Gargano. 

Esmée Zwiers

Esmée Zwiers is an assistant professor of econometrics and data science at the Amsterdam School of Economics. In her research, she studies the interactions between health and the labor market, with a focus on women and fertility. During her presentation she will discuss the current state of contraception in The Netherlands. 

Agnes Akkerman

Agnes Akkerman is Professor of Labor Regulation and labor sociologist in the Labor Law Department at the University of Amsterdam's Faculty of Law. Her research focuses on how work regulations influence employee voice and workplace conflict. She will speak about her project Justice entrepreneurship: student developed tools for access to labour rights together with her colleague Frances Singleton. This project brings together mbo, hbo, and university students in the Justice Entrepreneurship course at UvA Law School, where they collaboratively design solutions, understand stakeholders, and develop prototypes for new legal services. 

Frances Singleton

Frances Singleton is the Manager of Research & Innovation at the Amsterdam Law Hub, where she fosters collaboration on legal projects with a focus on social impact. She mentors students in developing justice solutions. As founder and director of the Law Hub incubator, Singleton guides projects from concept to market. She also advises on impact grants and co-designs training programs for PhDs and junior researchers. She presents the project Justice entrepreneurship: student developed tools for access to labour rights with Agnes Akkerman.

Audilla Vaughn 

Audilla Vaughn is a radio host, moderator, interviewer and speaker in both English and Dutch. With her UTK college degree, English Masters degree and worldwide travels Audilla keeps on improving her moderating skills to ensure that all speakers are heard and understood in both Dutch and English.  She will moderate this conversation.
