A lump in one's throat, pushing something down another's throat, a knot in one's stomach: there are many expressions that attest to the fact that emotions such as tension, grief, love and anxiety affects sensations in our digestive system. Despite this, doctors don't often talk about this to patients. Arjan Bredenoord argues that it is important to do so.
