They can be spotted from a mile away: the two domes of the Anton Pannekoek Observatorium, the most modern observatorium in the Netherlands.

Star dome

The highest of the two is the star dome. It houses a 51cm mirror telescope equipped with an extremely light-sensitive camera. The equipment is adapted to run a fully automated observation programme. This is a large benefit for students as they no longer have to be present all the time.

Sterrenkoepel

Sun dome

The lower dome is the sun dome. Here, you'll find telescopes for solar observation, including spectrographs to study the surface of the sun. On the observation deck adjacent to the sun dome, there are ten smaller, computer-controlled telescopes.
